Scientific Terms
Materials
12-cup muffin pan
fresh flowers
droppers
cups
spoons
a tray
water
Procedure
Pick flowers from your backyard or garden.
Put one of each flower type in each muffin cup.
Then, fill the cups with water and put them in the freezer for a few hours until frozen.
After taking the muffin pan out from the freezer, let it sit for a few minutes. The frozen flower cups will start to melt a little and loosen from the muffin pan. You can use droppers with warm water to melt them more.
Put the frozen flowers in a plastic tray to melt because it's easy to clean up.
Let the kids play with the frozen flowers until the flower melts out of the ice. You can also add some cups and spoons to let them scoop up water.
As the ice is melting you can show the kids the different parts of the flower (petals, stem, leaves)
Conclusion
This science experiment is a fun and engaging way for children to learn about the physical properties of water and the parts of a flower. As the ice melts, they can observe the flower emerging from the ice and use their senses to explore its different parts.
Also consider
1) Use different types of flowers and leaves.
2) Add food coloring to the water to encase the flowers in colorful ice cubes.
