Plant Growth in and Out of Greenhouses
Easy
Are greenhouses really beneficial for plants? Let's find out by comparing the growth rates of plants in and out of greenhouses over a 1-2 week period.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that the plant in the greenhouse will grow larger during the 1-2 week growth period.
Method & Materials
You will build a greenhouse, pot a plant, and measure the height of the plants every two days for 1-2 weeks.
You will need flexible straws, plastic wrap, tape, scissors, a ruler, a small pot or peat pot, planting soil, 2 seedlings, and water.
Results
The results of this experiment showed that the plant in the greenhouse grew larger than the one without protection. The most interesting observation was that the plant in the greenhouse grew at a much faster rate than the one without protection.
Why do this project?
This science project is interesting because it shows the benefits of using a greenhouse to grow plants. It also demonstrates how greenhouses can help protect plants from insects and diseases, and how they can be used to grow produce without using dangerous chemicals.
Also Consider
Variations of this experiment could include testing different types of plants, or testing different lengths of time for the growth period.
