How Quickly Do We Respond to Colors?
Hard
Ever wonder how quickly you can respond to different colors? In this science project, you'll find out by testing how quickly people respond to red, amber, and green lights.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that red color lights will produce the fastest human response.
Method & Materials
You will set up a circuit with 3 lamps of different colors, a timer, and 4 switches. You will then measure the response time of 20 participants when the lamps are randomly switched on.
You will need 20 children aged between 10 and 15 years old, 1 digital timer, 3 lamps (red, amber, and green), sockets for the 3 lamps, 4 switches, sockets for the 4 switches, and copper insulated wire to make the connections.
Results
The results showed that the participants responded the fastest to the green colored lamp and slowest to the red colored lamp. Our hypothesis was proven to be false.
Why do this project?
This science project is interesting because it tests how quickly people can respond to different colors, which is an important factor in driving safety.
Also Consider
To improve the reliability and accuracy of the results, a larger sample of participants should be used. This science project may also be repeated, by comparing response time between participants of different ages and gender.
