How does body mass index affect the cardiovascular system? Hypothesis:The people with a higher body mass index who do not exercise regularly will have a higher pulse because of the higher strain on their heart because their heart is not used to the excessive amount of exercise. Procedure:
Use 10 boys and 10 girls between the ages of 11 and 13 years old. Measure their height and weight. Use a body mass index (BMI) chart to find each person's BMI. Then, find out if they exercise regularly. Divide them into categories for exercisers, non-exercisers and according to their age. Measure each person's pulse rate in beats per minute before each exercise. Then, have them do forty jumping jacks. When they're done, measure their pulse again and calculate the percent increase. Wait until their pulse is back to normal, then have them walk up and down a staircase for one and a half minutes. Measure their pulse rate again. Find the percent increase in pulse rate for each exercise also. Repeat this procedure for each person.

Conclusion: The conclusion for this experiment is that the hypothesis that people with an above average BMI will have a higher pulse rate was incorrect. As BMI increased, the pulse rate decreased. This is probably because pulse has more to do with weight than how often a person exercises. An interesting fact about this experiment is that the change in pulse was higher with the stepping exercise than it was with the jumping jacks. If I were to do this project again, I would use more people with higher BMI's so I could have more accurate results. Biblical Application:
