Measuring Body Fat
Medium
Ever wondered how to measure body fat? Join us in this experiment to compare the performance of two body fat measurement devices! We'll measure the body fat of five boys and five girls using a skinfold caliper and paper tape. We'll then compare the results to see which device is more accurate.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that the skinfold measurement will be more accurate than the circumference measure.
Method & Materials
You will dress five boys and five girls in shorts and a T-shirt, measure their body fat with a skinfold caliper and paper tape, and compare the results.
You will need a skinfold caliper, 10 pieces of paper tape, five boys and five girls dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, a data table, and a fitness trainer.
Results
The results of this experiment showed that the skinfold measurement was more accurate than the circumference measure. This observation stands out because it shows that the skinfold measurement is a more reliable way to measure body fat.
Why do this project?
This science project is interesting and unique because it provides insight into the accuracy of different body fat measurement devices.
Also Consider
Experiment variations to consider include measuring body fat in different age groups or measuring body fat in different areas of the body.
