USS Wolffish (SS-434)
USS Wolffish (SS-434), a Tench-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the wolffish or seawolf, any of several large marine blennies, with strong teeth and great ferocity. Her construction by the Cramp Shipbuilding Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was authorized but the contract for her construction was cancelled on 29 July 1944.
