USS Vendace (SS-430)
USS Vendace (SS-430), a Tench-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the vendace , a whitefish native to certain lakes in Scotland and England. Her construction by the Cramp Shipbuilding Company at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was authorized but the contract for her construction was cancelled on 29 July 1944.
