USS Tiburon (SS-529)
USS Tiburon (SS-529), a Tench-class submarine, was the only submarine of the United States Navy to be named for the tiburon, a large voracious shark found in the Caribbean Sea and along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Central America. Her construction by the Boston Navy Yard was authorized on 19 July 1940, but was cancelled on 29 July 1944.
