The German RTL II television channel is produced by the company RTL 2 Fernsehen GmbH & Co. KG. RTL II is a privately-owned, commercial, general-interest channel as defined in the the Rundfunkstaatsvertrag . For cable networks in Austria and Switzerland, a local version of the main program with adapted commercial breaks is produced.

RTL 2 was founded as a second-generation commercial broadcaster in 1993. Programming pillars are a daily anime afternoon, wildlife programming on Sunday afternoons, daily episodes of the local Big Brother in access primetime, and an overperforming primetime lineup consisting mostly of docu-soaps, movies and licensed series such as 24 and Stargate SG-1.

RTL II is partly owned by RTL Group, but also by publishers Heinrich Bauer Verlag , Burda , and, jointly, by Disney/ABC and Tele München .
