Interstate 229
Interstate 229 is the name of two distinct spur routes of Interstate 29 in the Midwestern United States: one in the state of Missouri and one in the state of South Dakota.
I-229 Missouri
Interstate 229 in the state of Missouri is an approximately 14-mile (22.5 km) interstate highway in and near St. Joseph that connects with Interstate 29 at both its northern terminus and at its southern terminus. Unlike some interstate spur routes, which bypass urbanized areas, Interstate 229 provides the most direct access to downtown St. Joseph. Interstate 229 in Missouri runs very close to the Missouri River and the Kansas state border.
I-229 South Dakota
Interstate 229 in South Dakota runs approximately 10 miles (16 km) mostly within the city limits of Sioux Falls, the largest city in the state. It goes from Interstate 29 (just southwest of the city limits) to Interstate 90 (in the extreme northeast of Sioux Falls). In between, the interstate travels through parts of southern and eastern Sioux Falls.
