Commer

Commer was a British manufacturer of commercial vehicles which existed from 1905 until 1979.

The company was formed in Luton, and began by manufacturing military vehicles for the British Army in the First World War.

In the 1920s, Commer was taken over by Humber, which later became part of the Rootes Group.

Commer was later famous as a maker of vans for the British Post Office, something which it did up until the end of its existence. The Commer name was replaced by the Dodge name in the 1970s following Rootes' takeover by Chrysler Europe.

Unfortunately, Commer did not survive the collapse of Chrysler's European division in 1978, and the last Commer vehicle was produced the following year as Peugeot took over.
