Cadwalader, Wickersham, and Taft
Cadwalader, Wickersham, and Taft is the oldest continuously running law firm in the United States. It was established in 1792.
The firm is highly rated by Chambers and Partners in the areas of Capital Markets, Insurance, and Income Tax.

Founding
CWT was founded by an orphan, John Wells, in lower Manhattan. In 1818, Wells established one of the first law partnerships with George Washington Strong .
Names of the firm
During its history, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft was known by a number of names:
- Wells & Strong (1818-?)
- Strong, Bidwell & Strong (?-?)
- Bidwell & Strong (1855-?)
- Strong & Cadwalader (1878-1914)
- Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft (1914-present)
The current named partners joined at various points in CWT's long history: John L. Cadwalader joined in 1878; George W. Wickersham in 1883; and Henry W. Taft in 1889.
CWT on the Move
In January 2005 CWT moved to One World Financial Center in lower Manhattan.
